ADYN depends on parents to ensure the success of its programs.  Parents play an important role in supporting program Fellows through all initiatives. Parents are also vital contributors in selecting new Fellows.  Parents fundraise to keep down the cost to families of study abroad programs.  ADYN's expectations for parents include:

  • Participation in the ADYN Parents Council

  • Informed about ADYN's year-round events and activities

  • Commitment to support Fellows’ participation in all ADYN events

  • Communication with ADYN when major changes occur (change of address, phone)

  • Support for students to participate in regional and overseas programs

Parents will also play a critical role in ADYN's annual Youth Summit - which is a resource for youth between the ages of 18 - 35 interested in building critical skillsets to advance entrepreneurship, leadership, and innovation.  Plenary will help youth:

  • Develop policies and programs to address African Diaspora youth employment, education, cultural and parental engagement

  • Foster synergy between American youth and the African youth

  • Engage youth in an ongoing discussion about the needs of the community and both the public and private sector’s responsibility to the community

  • Encourage and empower youth to take responsibility for the welfare of their communities by developing youth-led service projects

  • Collaborate with community-based organizations, faith-based institutions, post-secondary institutions, regional NGOs, and businesses in program development
